Hot staying prospect Humidor will retain his strong New Zealand ties, even though his future remains in Australia.
The gifted four-year-old stayed in Melbourne following his unplaced run during the spring carnival in the Gr.1 Cantala Stakes at Flemington where he was denied clear room in the run home.
"The approaches were coming straight after that and we had quite few before as well," said John Carter, who shares in the ownership with his brother Mark and their sister Rachael under their Jomara Bloodstock banner.
The successful offer came from clients of the leading Victorian trainer Darren Weir, who sent out a Commonwealth record of 347 winners in the 2015-16 season.
"We've sold 50 per cent of him and he's spelling on one of Darren Weir's agistment farms. At this stage, we'd assume he'd come back for an autumn campaign," Carter said.
A son of Teofilo, Humidor was bred by the Carter siblings and is out of Zabeel's daughter Zalika, the winner of three races.
"We've still got the mare and she's got a Makfi colt," Carter said.
Humidor was previously trained by Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard and he won four of his 10 starts under their guidance.
The gelding was successful in last season's Gr.3 Manawatu Classic at his fifth start and this term he won on the first two days of the Hawke's Bay spring carnival.
He then stepped on to centre stage on the final day of the Hastings meeting to finish runner-up behind Willie Cazals in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic.
"It's a business and with Darren Weir he's in a good place," Benner said.
"He's a very, very special horse and we've got no doubt that once the penny really drops then he will be competing successfully in Caulfield and Melbourne Cups." – NZ Racing Desk.
