An impressive win in the last race at Pukekohe on the weekend has set up promising mare Buy Me A Rock for a tilt at the new Dunstan Feeds Rising Stars Championship series which will culminate in a $80,000 final over 1500 metres at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Saturday's Franklin Long Roofing sponsored 1400 metre contest was one of 25 qualifying races for the series with Buy Me A Rock registering an impressive performance that will stamp her as a favoured runner come finals day. The Fastnet Rock four-year-old overcame the prevailing racing pattern on the day to storm home from beyond midfield to snatch victory for owners Brendan and Jo Lindsay and their new resident trainer, Lance Noble.

"That was a super win and good one for the whole team at Lindsay Racing," noted Noble.

"We've had a steady start to the season so to grab a win like that is a reward for the hard work that has gone in. Hopefully that will give us some real momentum as we get ready for the busiest time of the year."

Noble had been confident of a good run from his charge although he did admit a front-runners bias evident on the day had him worried about how her natural style might cope with the tempo of the race.

"She's a mare who likes to find her feet early and is best ridden back at the start," he explained.

"We had a chat about what had been evident during the day but decided we wouldn't make any changes as that was more likely to throw her off her game.

"As it was there was plenty of speed on and Leith (Innes) got her into the race at just the right time and she finished it off well from there.

"She really is a genuine mare who has always been around the placings or had a genuine excuse when finishing further back.

"Her last run was very good so we had hoped she could improve enough on that to be competitive on Saturday."

Noble will now set the mare for Boxing Day with a further goal of obtaining some black-type with her later in the campaign.

"She is a mare who I think will be best suited around 1600 metres so the Dunstan Final at 1500 metres on Boxing Day will be perfect for her," he said.

"She is only going to get better as she gets stronger so we will be looking at some of those stakes race later in the summer and autumn for her as she is a very valuable broodmare prospect."

Buy Me A Rock now heads the qualifying ladder for the Dunstan Feeds Rising Stars series with nine points, equal with Banrock who won the other qualifying race on the day. – NZ Racing Desk
