Forbes and Ring gain scholarships

The New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Association have announced the 2017 recipients of their annual international scholarships.

At twenty-one-years-old Lance Forbes is one of the youngest recipients of the Sunline International Management Scholarship.

Currently the yearling manager of Cambridge Stud, Forbes has previously worked Ascot Farm and Arrowfield Stud in New South Wales. He is the son of former trainer Graeme Forbes and Sheryl (nee Tims) and brother of former jockey Alex and Kiltannon stable's Mark.

The Sunline International Management Scholarship involves placements at Cheveley Park in England, Coolmore Stud in Ireland and Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky.

Waikato Stud's Cameron Ring is the 2017 Irish National Stud recipient.

Currently based at Waikato Stud, Ring inherited his interest in thoroughbreds from his grandfather Bill, a former president of the Matamata Racing Club, while his great grandfather Calvin was a stalwart of the industry.

Ring has previously worked at Hinuera Lodge and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in rural valuation from Lincoln University which he attended on a future leader's scholarship.

Sponsored by Keith and Faith Taylor, the Irish National Stud Scholarship is a five-month management diploma course based in Kildare. Ring will be employed at the Taylor's Trelawney Stud for six months upon completion of the course.
