Former Cambridge trainer Trent Busuttin made a flying trip across the Tasman to make his mark on the annual New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale on Thursday.

Busuttin and partner Natalie Young have made a positive start from their new Cranbourne-based training operation and will have further ammunition to add to their ranks with the acquisition of several two-year-olds over the two days of the sale.

Busuttin picked up three individuals on day one of the sale including Lot 52, a Tavistock colt that fell to his $250,000 bid while shortly afterwards he picked up a Savabeel colt, Lot 89 for $240,000.

Busuttin bided his time on day two before securing Lot 495, the O'Reilly colt from Waikato Gold Cup winner Singing Star, for a final bid of $320,000. The colt is a full brother to Gr. 2 Lowland Stakes winner Miss Selby and also features multiple Group One winner Viadana in his extended family.

"He's a lovely moving colt who breezed really well," he said.

"He's from a good family and a champion sire so he is going to get every chance to see if he can live up to that blood."

Busuttin bought the colt for clients of Australian agents Cameron Cooke and Mark Pilkington. He will stay in New Zealand for several weeks before heading across to Busuttin and Young's Cranbourne complex in the new year. – NZ Racing Desk
