An association developed over many years and any number of well performed horses has again been strengthened in the early stages of day two of the annual New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale at Karaka.
Sydney-based agent Anton Koolman struggled to remember just how long he has been buying horses for the Unifaith group, however the figure of 30 years was a number that he was comfortable with.
In that time he can point to numerous winners, including Look Who's Talking who won the 1994 New Zealand Derby while more recently promising Hong Kong galloper Run Forrest, a graduate of the 2013 Ready To Run sale, has figured prominently for the team.
Koolman is hoping he has added to an already impressive list for his clients with his purchase of Lot 349, a Reward For Effort colt from the Lyndhurst Farm draft, that was knocked down to him for $360,000. The striking youngster attracted plenty of attention with Koolman noting he fulfilled his most important buying criteria.
"You come to this sale to buy an athlete and hopefully that's what I've done," he said.
"When I saw his breeze-up he immediately struck me as such a beautiful mover. In the flesh he is just as impressive, just a real runner.
"The Exceed And Excel influence in his pedigree really shone through in his looks and movement so I'm looking forward to watching his progress."
Koolman advised the colt would be transferred to his Sydney property for the next stage of his development. He was also interested in just what his clients would name the horse with their preference to use popular movie titles or references set to continue. – NZ Racing Desk
