Kelvin Tyler has a big team engaged at Winton on Thursday and he expects the highly-rated Lochan Ora to be one of his best prospects.
The Riverton trainer has been pleased with the five-year-old's two runs this preparation and he likes the gelding's chances in the Invercargill Licensing Trust Handicap.
"It's only a small field so I thought I'd let him spin his wheels again," Tyler said.
"He's gone up in weight and he's only a small horse, but it is a step down for him and he is pretty tough."
The winner of seven races, Lochan Ora was runner-up to Tommy Tucker when he resumed at Wingatui earlier this month and he then finished sixth behind Batman on the closing day of the New Zealand Cup carnival.
"He was a bit unlucky at Riccarton, he got a shove from another horse so he didn't go a bad race at all," Tyler said. "He's come through that run really well.
"There's some nice races coming up for him around Christmas time so we'll probably be looking at the Timaru Cup and the White Robe.
"There's plenty of options and I'll keep him ticking over until then."
Tyler said he would prefer the rain to stay away from Winton for Lochan Ora, but stablemate Clareville Flight (Speight's Handicap) would welcome it.
"It was too hard for her at Ashburton, she's a different horse on a wet track." – NZ Racing Desk.
