March's $1 million Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby is the long-term target for talented Smart Missile colt Cha Siu Bao, says Matamata trainer Lance O'Sullivan.
Cha Siu Bao lost few admirers with a brave fourth in last Saturday's Gr.1 NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton, which had followed easy wins at Te Rapa and Ashburton.
"He's come through the race really well and he's off for two weeks rest now," O'Sullivan said.
"He certainly looks like he'll run over ground so we'll bring him back with an eye to getting him ready for those three-year-old races leading up to the Derby next year."
