Johnathan Parkes will head back to Tauranga on Saturday to continue his association with two of his favourite horses.
The Wanganui rider will be aboard Julinsky Prince in the Gr.2 Preston Rowe Paterson Property Valuers Tauranga Stakes and the unbeaten Volpe Veloce in the Mainfreight Tauranga 3YO.
Parkes has won two Group One races on the Fraser Auret-prepared Julinsky Prince, the Windsor Park Plate and the Captain Cook Stakes, who hasn't raced since he was out of the money in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic.
"He's had a jump-out since then. I didn't ride him but he went well from the report I had," he said.
"He really likes a freshen-up between runs and he loves Tauranga."
Julinsky Prince has had a win and a runner-up finish there in the Gr.2 Japan/NZ International Trophy and he has also twice placed in the Tauranga Stakes.
Parkes has ridden the Graham Richardson-trained Volpe Veloce in all three of her wins, including last season's Listed Castletown Stakes and in one subsequent appearance he guided the filly to an easy resuming victory at Tauranga at the end of last month.
"She's a very classy filly with a lot ahead of her," he said.
In the meantime, Parkes has a solid book of rides at Awapuni on Thursday, including the genuine Cruiser in the Tru Test Handicap.
"He's been knocking on the door and he should go close again," said Parkes, who also rated the chances of Boxamosa in the Seales Winslow Handicap. "He's a handy sort of horse and he's been trialling up well."- NZ Racing Desk.
