Barbaric goes into Saturday's Listed Legacy Lodge Sprint at Te Rapa without a run since July, but Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh well remembers his fresh-up win in the same race last year.
"It was a top win in this race last year. He broke the track record with Lee Magorrian up," Marsh said.
Barbaric tackles a strong field in the 1400m feature that has attracted the likes of Group One performers Ryan Mark and Natuzzi as well as the likes of Mosse, Start Wondering, Bonniegirl, Close Up and Southern Icon.
"He races well fresh and he's in well at the weights with 55 kilos. He trialled well the other day," Marsh said.
