Humidor's Australian venture is one undertaken with an eye very much to the future.
The Group One performer was on a plane to Melbourne on Wednesday night with the Gr.1 Cantala Stakes over a mile at Flemington on Saturday week his target.
"The main reason we decided to go over is for the experience and hopefully the trip turns a boy into a man," said Johno Benner, who trains Humidor with his partner Hollie Wynyard.
"We want to be back in Australia next year for the Australian Cup and, dare I say it, the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
"We know he can stay and this trip can be the making of him. He still does a few things wrong, but he is getting better and this experience will certainly help him."
Humidor, who will be ridden by Michael Walker, won on the opening two days of the Hawke's Bay carnival before he finished a meritorious second to Willie Cazals in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic.
"He came home after that and had a quiet week and we've just kept ticking him over since," Benner said.
"He's going really well and we're happy with his condition."
On the domestic front, Humidor's stablemate Lucy Liu will make the final appearance of her current campaign in Saturday's Gr.3 Civics @ Cambridge Lodge Thompson Handicap.
"This will be her last run before she goes to the paddock," Benner said. "We think she's good enough to run in those fillies and mares' races next year. It's an early throw at the stumps, but she'll beat more than beat her home."
Lucy Liu has won three of her nine starts and was a last-start fifth in Rating 75 company at Wanganui. – NZ Racing Desk.
