Shillelagh's camp are counting themselves lucky that the mare didn't suffer any major injury when she was stopped in her tracks at Caulfield.
Not for the first time in Australia, the lightly-raced Savabeel five-year-old was luckless when tailing the field home in Saturday's Gr.2 Tristarc Stakes. She coped a severe check in the straight when full of running.
"She got out of it well really," said Stephen Autridge, who trains Shillelagh with Jamie Richards. "She only had half a run. She lost a bit of skin, but she ate up so we're happy about that.
"At this stage she'll run in a fillies and mares' race on Melbourne Cup day."
Her assignment is the Gr.3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, formerly the Maybe Mahal, over 1400 metres.
Shillelagh was also out of luck in her Australian debut when she suffered an interrupted run before finishing in behind the placegetters and she then posted the fifth win of her nine start career when successful at Caulfield at the start of this month.
Meanwhile, the stable's immediate focus is on their home meeting at Matamata on Wednesday with a handful of runners. Two of them – Amperage and Stolen Love – are considered strong chances.
Amperage will make the second appearance of his current campaign in the Matamata Veterinary Services 1600.
"He's a fair dinkum staying horse by Zabeel and it might be a bit short, but we think he'll run a good race," Autridge said.
Stolen Love was a solid fifth on debut at Waverley last time out and further improvement is expected in the Colchester Engineering 1400.
"She's drawn wide, but with a little bit of luck we think she's a very good show," Autridge said. – NZ Racing Desk.
