Miss Three Stars will have a proud family tradition to uphold in the Gr.3 New Zealand Cup.
And the well-performed southern mare is making excellent progress toward next month's Christchurch Casino-sponsored feature at Riccarton.
"That's where we're going and everything's right with her," trainer Tommy Beckett said.
The winner last season of both the Gr.3 Winter Cup and the Listed Riverton Cup, Miss Three Stars has been placed up to 2500 metres and Beckett is convinced she won't be troubled by the 3200 metre trip of the cup.
"The whole family stays – Esprit D'Or is her uncle and he ran second in the cup for me and another uncle, King D'Or, ran third in the cup," he said. "I reckon she is the one that can win the cup for us."
Miss Three Stars has placed in two of her three starts since she beat Platinum Command and Taurus in the Winter Cup and she will head back to Riccarton this Satuday for her next appearance.
"She'll start in the Listed race and then I won't run her again before the New Zealand Cup," Beckett said.
The lead-up race he was referring to is the Christchurch Casino Spring Classic.
Sam Wynne has been Miss Three Stars' regular partner and Beckett said her availability was vital to his cup plans.
"She keeps getting suspended because she tries so hard every time," Beckett said.
"Sam gets on so well with the mare and we made a deal ages ago that she rides her whenever she's available."
Wynne has ridden Miss Three Stars in all but one of her nine career wins and in 23 outings together they have only failed to weigh in on four occasions. - NZ Racing Desk.
