Nomisma may not be best suited to Rotorua, but trainer Tony Pike is still bullish about her prospects there on Saturday.
The progressive daughter of Thorn Park made an impressive opening to her five-year-old campaign last time out and she will shoot for further success when she steps up in class to the Gr.3 Sweynesse Stakes.
"Rotorua is not the ideal track for her, but she worked so well on Tuesday morning and it's a really nice chance for some black type for her," Pike said.
"She gets back a touch in her races, but with some pace on she is good enough to roll over the top of them."
A strong performance would also bring her a step closer to a start in the Gr.2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile, for which she is currently an $18 chance.
Nomisma opened her spring preparation with a smart win on the closing day of the Hawke's Bay carnival to take her record to four victories and four placings from her 13 starts.
Meanwhile, the stable has opted to run the in-form Chachar in Saturday's Rydges Hotel Rotorua 1215 rather than the Group Three event.
"She's been very difficult and when she first came to us she had a few barrier issues, which we've managed to iron out and she was very good the other day," Pike said.
Chachar came off a trial success for a first-up front-running success at Ellerslie, where she accounted for the highly-regarded duo of Bao Shan Magic and Go Nicholas.
"She has matured a lot mentally and physically and she's got a bright future," Pike said. - NZ Racing Desk.
