Stablemates chasing black type double

Underthemoonlight - Trish Dunell

Matamata trainer Karyn McQuade knows exactly what to expect of Underthemoonlight, but she's not quite so sure of stablemate Kindaleica.

The former is in top form for the Gr.3 Rich Hill Stud Taranaki Breeders' Stakes while Kindaleica has been something of a mixed bag in his lead-up to his home feature, the Listed Team Wealleans Matamata Cup.

"Horses can have off years, but he is really well and maybe he doesn't travel that well," McQuade said.

Kindaleica turned in a below par performance last time out when out of the money in the Gr.3 Merial Metric Mile at Awapuni off the back of a solid second at Ellerslie.

"He doesn't like it when the track's sticky either so hopefully he'll go a lot better," McQuade said.

Underthemoonlight has enjoyed a solid campaign and she won't have any problems with the heavy going at Hawera.

The El Hermano mare is a genuine winter performer who has enjoyed a rewarding campaign with eight cheques from 11 appearances.

She was an open handicap winner at Te Rapa during the winter and more recently she was an unlucky fourth in the Gr.2 Foxbridge Plate before runner-up finishes at Hastings and Ellerslie.

"She always tried very hard and she's had a few knocks and bumps along the way, she's popped up in the stipes' reports a few times," McQuade said.

"Hopefully she'll get a clear run this time and I'm sure she's going to be very competitive." – NZ Racing Desk.
