Blueblood to take early opportunity

Regally-bred filly Orphea will debut at Avondale on Wednesday, but only because she's in the opening event.

The Lance Noble-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock, who will be ridden by Leith Innes, will have first use of the track in the NZ All Golds Maiden 3YO.

"She's in the first race so she'll probably take her chance," he said. "She ran well at the trials and she's a filly with a bit of ability and speed."

Runner-up in her first trial in the autumn behind recent debut winner Veearma, she was again second in an 800 metre heat at Avondale last month.

Orphea is a half-sister to the Gr.1 Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic and she holds a nomination for the Gr.1 gavelhouse.com NZ 1000 Guineas.

"The season is moving on so we need to get her going, but the ground will be a query and we need to see how professional she is," said Noble, who is the private trainer to the filly's owners Brendan and Jo Lindsay.

Meanwhile, stablemate Riverdeep is an unlikely starter in the Goodwin Property Management 1600.

"I was happy with his run at Te Rapa the other day, but he's in the last race so he's a doubtful runner," Noble said. – NZ Racing Desk.
