The Aidan O'Brien-trained The Happy Prince (Rip Van Winkle) stayed on well in the closing stages to land the Gr.3 Renaissance Stakes (1200m) at the Curragh on Sunday, providing Windsor Park Stud's Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) with his tenth stakes winner.
The four-year-old raced enthusiastically in front from the early stages under Ryan Moore, but the colt had to be kept up to his work inside the final 150 yards to fend off a dual challenge from the Jim Bolger-trained Flight Risk (Teofilo) and La Rioja (Hellvelyn), who finished in second and third, beaten three quarter of a length and a nose respectively.
Rip Van Winkle is standing at a fee of $12,500 + GST at Windsor Park Stud this season.
