Legless Veuve (NZ) (Pins) stepped up from maiden class to win Saturday's Group II Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield.
Trainer Stuart Webb said the win did not surprise despite the leap in class.
"She's improving all the time and only lightly raced," Webb said. "She showed us good ability in the autumn and we felt she was always going to improve with time.
"She's still got her winter coat and she's still a fair way behind but she's got tons of ability so we'll give the Thousand Guineas a go in two weeks and then probably put her away as she's still a baby."
Webb won the Thousand Guineas in 2010 with Yosei and said the daughter of Pins earned her name following a meeting of the ownership group at a Randwick race meeting last year.
"We had a naming day at Randwick and it's fair to say a few of the owners were a bit legless on the Veuve (Clicquot) and so that was it," he said.
Winning jockey Mark Zahra rode Legless Veuve to victory at Sale and said he refused other mounts in the race.
"She's a filly with a lot of talent and I was always wanting to ride her," Zahra said.
"If you look at her she's got a heap of improvement too. They were pressing me at the hundred (metres) but she found plenty for me and was holding them on the line." -Racenet
