I Suggest's camp remain confident of another special day at New Plymouth on Saturday, despite a change to the conditions of the Powerworx Grey feature.
The Any Suggestion mare won the event only open to grey horses 12 months ago and their hopes of retaining the title were boosted when they booked apprentice Zinjete Moki for the ride.
"We got Zinjete because it was advertised as a claiming race, then we got an e-mail saying there weren't any claims but we're sticking with her anyway," trainer Trudy Keegan said.
Moki rode I Suggest last time out when the pair combined for a runaway six and a-half length victory at Awapuni.
"She's a typical mare and can be a bit moody and she likes a rider with nice, soft hands," Keegan said.
"Zinjete clicked with her so we're happy to keep her on."
I Suggest has trained on well since her latest effort and, given her preferred underfoot conditions, confidence is high of a repeat performance on Saturday.
"She's in a better place this season than she was last year," Keegan said. "Her work has been consistently stronger and every time she goes out she gets an A plus.
"She can make life hard for herself by being slowly away, but I am really confident if the track is okay for her – as long as it doesn't get sticky she'll be fine, she just doesn't like it puggy."
Following her win last year, I Suggest placed in the Egmont Cup and she is likely to follow a similar path.
"We'll probably head that way again and I would love to win some of those cups races with her," Keegan said. – NZ Racing Desk.
