Jonquil is in line for a trip to the New Zealand Cup carnival if she can strike form early in her new preparation.
The five-year-old will resume at Otaki on Thursday in the El Cheapo Cars Handicap following a five month break.
"She will improve with the run, although I don't see any reason why she won't be competitive," trainer Ashley Meadows said.
"Theoretically this should be her best year and after this race she'll go to Woodville and provided she's going alright I'd like to take her to Christchurch. There's two staying races there for her in the Rating 85 grade."
Jonquil has won three of her 15 starts with two of her past successes on the Otaki course.
"She's a bit better than her record suggests – she's always had really bad feet and through the winter it's always a bit of a struggle."
Should Jonquil's form warrant the southern venture, Meadows is also considering including stablemates Wazuzu and La Monnoye in the party.
The former was a debut winner at his only appearance last season and he resumed with an encouraging fifth at Wanganui before finishing sixth at Awapuni a week later.
"I shouldn't have backed him up, he was flat all the way," Meadows said.
La Monnoye is a six-year-old who has placed in all four of his starts, including a runner-up finish at Riccarton during the 2014 cup carnival.
"He is a good horse if he stays sound," Meadows said. "He should probably have won his last run at Hastings – he was back last on the turn and he flew home for second, but he did a tendon so he had a year off." – NZ Racing Desk.
