This Sunday 18th September at Pukekohe Park will see the running of the $50,000 Listed Haunui Farm Karaka Classic. The Open Mile race is the beginning of a partnership between Pukekohe Park and the premier thoroughbred stud, Haunui Farm.
Haunui Farm was founded in 1955, and was crafted by three generations of the Chitty family, an aspect of the operation which is a source of great pride to present day Managing Director Mark Chitty.
The modern day Haunui Farm, now located in Kidd Road, Karaka, has been recognised as one of New Zealand's finest thoroughbred nurseries, home to champion sires Showcasing and Iffraaj, as well as the up-and-coming Ferlax, who's first crop has been impressive.
"We are looking forward to our association with Pukekohe Park and the Counties Racing Club. The new vision at Pukekohe Park is quite refreshing and one that we support. There is no doubt that the Counties area is one of the most rapidly growing regions in the country and we are proud to be part of it" stated Chitty.
The partnership kicks off in style with the listed Haunui Farm Karaka Classic this Sunday, which has attracted several smart runners including Hasselhoof, Saint Emillion, Platinum Command, Chenille & Brighton. Gates open at 11:00am and entry is free on the day.
A Pukekohe Park Members Day will also be held at Haunui Farm in October, to provide a unique Haunui experience for Counties Racing Club members, partners and users of Pukekohe Park. Members and partners will receive a behind the scenes tour of Haunui Farm and get to see the stallions up close and personal. The Members Day will provide the perfect lead in to Spring racing, and in particular the SsangYong Counties Cup Day on Saturday 19th November. Haunui Farm will also be the naming rights sponsor to the Listed Counties Bowl at this meeting.
