An injury to jockey Gary Walsh has resulted in a change of plans for the well-performed hurdler Just Ishi.

Trainer Gail Temperton had intended to give the gelding an outing over the bigger fences, but the unavailability of his regular rider will see him step out in the Carpet Maintenance & Cleaning Hurdles at Wanganui on Thursday.

"I thought he would have been steeplechasing by now, but Gary got hurt and I wanted someone familiar on him to do that so we'll wait until next year," Temperton said.

"He's a great old horse and this will probably be his last run of the campaign."

Walsh, who suffered a hand injury when he parted company with Hunters Creek in the Great Northern Hurdles, has enjoyed a good association with Just Ishi this preparation.

They won jumping events at Wanganui and at Hawera, finished fourth in the Wellington Hurdles and were runners-up in the Sydenham Hurdles at Riccarton. They were also second last time out, again on the River City course.

With Walsh side-lined, Just Ishi will be ridden by the Victorian-based Richard Cully.

"Gary organised that – they are old mates," Temperton said. "The horse is very well so we're very hopeful."

Cully has secured a full book at Wanganui where he will partner the Stephen Beatson-trained Kings Kite (race one), the Ken Duncan representatives Mister Deejay (race two) and Her Son (race four) and Just Ishi's stablemate Our Debutante (race three). – NZ Racing Desk.
