Mare to lead a merry dance over a mile

The Stolen Dance camp are confident of the mare's return to form over her favourite trip in the second leg of the Triple Crown series at Hastings.

The rub of the green went against the five-year-old in the Gr.1 Makfi Challenge Stakes, but a step up in trip in the Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate on Saturday week is expected to bring out the best in the daughter of Alamosa.

"She got knocked back early in the Makfi and she couldn't find her feet after that," trainer David Greene said.

"It was a bit unfortunate, but I thought she got home all right at the end. She was happy enough after the race and she's been her normal self since."

Greene's optimism for the middle leg of the series is based on Stolen Dance's potency at 1600 metres.

"She's won eight races and seven of those have been at a mile and she's also had two seconds. She's stepping up to her pet trip next time," he said.

"She will strip very close to peak fitness and as long as we get a good track at Hastings I am sure she is going to be very competitive."

Stolen Dance's best performances over 1600 metres include wins last season in the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes and in the Gr.3 Eagle Technology Stakes and a runner-up finish in the Gr.1 Thorndon Mile. – NZ Racing Desk.
