Sir Patrick Hogan is planning to keep a close eye on a special filly for the next week.
He was delighted to see Gift Of Power burn off her rivals in the first juvenile race of the season, the Vespa Standing at Wellfield Lodge Plate at Wanganui on Saturday.
"She's going to Cambridge Stud on Monday and Sir Patrick has got a paddock saved for her outside his bedroom window," said Graeme Rogerson, who prepares the precocious filly with his wife Debbie.
Gift Of Power was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, who have retained an ownership interest after she was a $180,000 purchase out of their draft at Karaka earlier this year with Rogerson's grand-daughter Bailey selecting her.
"She liked her and bought her - I thought she paid too much, but she's cheap now," Rogerson said.
"She's a real professional who jumps and rails well and she's only going to get better.
"She'll run in the Wellesley Stakes next and then we'll make a plan to get her to the Karaka Million."
Gift Of Power is the first Southern Hemisphere winner for her Cambridge Stud-based shuttle stallion Power.
The dual Group One-winning son of Oasis Dream is already short-priced favourite to be crowned New Zealand's champion freshman sire. He has made a strong start to his European career with 14 winners, including the Gr.3 Anglesey Stakes winner Peace Envoy.
Gift of Power was ridden by Craig Grylls, who guided her to an easy Te Teko trial victory, and he said he had no concerns after leading for much of the way at Wanganui to easily account for Caesour's Dream.
"She cornered really well and she did it quite comfortably."
