Southern Sav will be chasing some unfinished business at Riccarton in November.
The Michael and Matthew Pitman-trained stayer won last season's Listed Metropolitan Trophy before he was narrowly denied a memorable double when runner-up in the Gr.3 New Zealand Cup.
The Savabeel gelding has begun his build-up toward going one better in the Christchurch Casino-sponsored cup.
"He's back in work and getting ready for the carnival," Matthew Pitman said. "He's a couple of weeks away from his first start."
