Memories - Trish Dunell

Memories Only will be heading across the Tasman, but just when he goes has yet to be determined.

Breeder, owner and trainer Linda Laing has confirmed her intent to send the promising youngster to Australia.

"He's been back in work for more than a month and I want him to do a bit here first," the Cambridge horsewoman said.

"He will go over, but there's absolutely no hurry to get him to Melbourne just yet. He'll probably have his first bit of fast work this weekend."

Laing said the lack of three-year-old sprints was the main reason for looking further afield with the son of Patapan.

Memories Only was a trial winner in March before he made a winning debut on an unsuitably slow track at Rotorua the following month.

His next, and only other, appearance at Te Rapa confirmed his talent when he finished a close second, after being taken on in front, behind Ugo Foscolo in the Listed Hamilton Vets Equine Stakes.

The Stephen Marsh-trained Ugo Foscolo stretched his unbeaten run to three on Saturday when he beat a competitive line-up when resuming at Hastings

"There's nothing between the two horses – I certainly wouldn't be scared of him," Laing said.

Memories Only is a half-brother to Siem Reap, who won four races for Laing and with her father Royce Dowling she also prepared their close relative Durzetta, who won the Gr.3 Eight Carat Classic and the Gr.3 Lion Brown Plate and was also a Group One placegetter. – NZ Racing Desk.
