The most notable absentee from the opening leg of the Triple Crown series at Hawke's Bay will join the action on the second day of the carnival.
Proven top level performer Julinsky Prince is on target to defend his crown in the Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate at Hastings on September 17.
"It was always going to be pretty tight to have him fit and ready for the Makfi," trainer Fraser Auret said.
"After he ran in the Easter I was determined to give him a good spell, which he had, and he was just a bit heavy when he came back so it was always likely the first day at Hastings was going to come up too soon."
Julinsky Prince finished seventh, but only two lengths from the winner Sound Proposition, in last season's Ellerslie feature to bring the curtain down on a successful campaign.
His previous six appearances had netted Group One wins in the Windsor Park Plate and the Captain Cook Stakes and placings in the Gr.1 Haunui Farm Classic, the Gr.2 Japan/NZ International Trophy and the Gr.2 Tauranga Stakes.
The Darci Brahma gelding has proved time and again that he is a potent force in a fresh state - he won last year's Windsor Park Plate first-up – and he is progressing well toward a repeat performance.
"He's 110 percent and he won a jump out at Levin last Wednesday so he's on target for the second day at Hawke's Bay," Auret said.
"He's going the right way and I'm tickled pink with him – he's in tremendous order."
Julinsky Prince will further his preparation with an outing at the Otaki trials on Tuesday. – NZ Racing Desk.
