The connections of Fanatic aren't expecting the Group One winner to resume in a blaze of glory at Hastings on Saturday.
"She's been back for four months and we're very happy with her, but the 1400 metres isn't ideal and well short of her best," said Debbie Sweeney, who prepares the daughter of Shocking with her father Graeme Sanders.
"We took her to Te Teko the other week for a day out and she's been to Te Rapa for a gallop. She's coming along nicely and she has definitely strengthened up with a break."
Last season's Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks winner will make the first of three intended trips to the Hawke's Bay when she resumes in the Bostock New Zealand Spring Carnival 1400 in the hands of Mark Hills, who rode her to victory in the Trentham classic.
"Her main targets will be on the last two days, the Windsor Park Plate and particularly the Livamol Classic," Sweeney said.
Fanatic will be accompanied to Hastings by stablemate Cavallucci, who will face a stern first-up test in the El Roca 3YO Sprint.
"That's a very strong field with Ugo Foscolo, Mongolian Falcon and Hall Of Fame in it," Sweeney said.
Placed in last season's Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes and the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes, Cavallucci hasn't raced since he tailed the field home at Ellerslie in April.
"He was disappointing that day, but we found he had a virus," Sweeney said. "He's worked up well and he tries hard. He's grown a bit, but he's still small." – NZ Racing Desk.
