Josh Oliver's cracking start to his time in Queensland has been recognised with him named as a finalist for Queensland apprentice of the year.
Oliver, who spent time with Graeme Rogerson, Brian McKeagg and Brendon Hawtin in New Zealand, shifted to Australia last term and linked with Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie.
He won 68 races, second only to James Ormond, who was named champion apprentice at Saturday's Queensland horse of the year awards. Ormond won 143 races, including 70 metropolitan races.
Oliver's recognition comes after fellow Kiwi jockey Rory Hutchings won the Sydney apprentice title and Michael Dee was runner-up to Dylan Dunn in the race for Melbourne apprentice honours.
