Top New Zealand-bred galloper Spalato has been withdrawn from the $200,000 SG-Group 3 Garden City Trophy due to a swollen near fore fetlock.
Trainer John O'Hara said the Elusive City seven-year-old came down with a condition commonly known as "big leg" virus on Saturday and though not serious, he decided to err on the side of caution.
"The left leg got all puffed yesterday. I could have run him but as he is a bleeder, I decided not to," said O'Hara about the Graham Mackie-owned 10-time winner.
"He may get away with the leg if he runs, but I'm afraid if he comes under stress, he may bleed again.
"He will go on antibiotics and he will be right. I haven't looked at the programme yet, the priority is his recovery."
The 2014 Emirates Singapore Derby winner was making his racing comeback since his bleeding attack in the Group 1 Lion City Cup (1200m) in April.
