Hayden Tinsley has picked up the ride on Gr.1 Railway Handicap winner Ryan Mark for Saturday week's Gr.1 Makfi Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Hastings.
The Palmerston North jockey answered the call from Taupiri owner-trainer John Morell after Ryan Mark's regular rider Michael Coleman opted to ride last Saturday's Gr.2 Foxbridge Plate runner-up No More Tears in the Hastings feature.
"Hayden should suit him," Morell said.
"But it is a Group One race and the horse is going to have to step it up a bit from his first run."
A winner of eight of his 18 starts, Ryan Mark finished seventh of eight runners resuming at Ruakaka earlier this month after getting too far back in running in a race won by Makfi Challenge Stakes favourite Valley Girl.
Morell sent Ryan Mark to Pim Blair for a week of beach training at Raglan and has been pleased with his progress since returning to his stable.
"He galloped with Stolen Dance at Te Rapa on Wednesday and he went to Rogersons and went on the water-walker on Thursday. He looks good and he's tightened up with the run at Ruakaka."
Coleman had several Makfi Stakes mounts to choose from, with Johnathan Parkes now taking the ride on Mime for Cambridge trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, who have engaged Mark Du Plessis for their other runner, Our Vergara. - NZ Racing Desk
