Grand National Steeplechase winner Upper Cut could be given the chance to add the north's major jumping prize to his winter tally.
"We haven't worked him since he got home from Riccarton, but we will tomorrow (Wednesday) and if he's okay then we will go for the Great Northern," trainer Mark Oulaghan said.
The Awapuni horseman was also pleased with the performance at Tuesday's trials of the promising Shadows Cast, who finished runner-up to Miss Appleton in his 1000 metre heat.
"We think he's a pretty good horse," Oulaghan said "He'll probably run at Hawke's Bay, I'm just not sure if it will be the first day yet."
