Trainer Cliff Brown is giving progressive galloper Magstock a well-deserved break after he recorded back-to-back wins on Sunday.

The son of Tavistock unleashed an electric turn of foot at his last start to down Robin Hood in a Kranji Stakes D race over 1600m at his last run.

Stepped up to 1800m in the $60,000 Mexican Rose 2009, Magstock again lived up to his favourite tag, albeit the manner of the win was a little less flashy.

But jockey Michael Rodd who has now partnered him at all his three wins still saw plenty of merit in the way he came from the rear to wear down bold leader Remember Me (John Powell) from the 200m mark.

"He was all class again today," began the Australian jockey's glowing post-race report.

"Nothing went right for him. He was caught three deep and the race was developing into a sprint home.

"But he still won in the end. He's definitely on the way up."

If more is to come out from Magstock, it will be verifiable only after a break.

"He's a nice horse but I will give him a break now," said Brown.

"He's had a tough campaign and won two tough races. I'll bring him back in a few weeks' time.

"He was one of my best three-year-olds but unfortunately, he also had Debt Collector and Fitzroy for company, but he's still done a good job.

"He's still a big baby. I would say he's six months away. He should come back a much better horse once he matures."

On the line, Magstock held a half-length to spare from Remember Me with Brahms And Liszt (Ng Choon Kiat) third another 2 ½ lengths away. The winning time was 1min 50.2secs for the 1800m on the Long Course.

That third win has now pushed Magstock's prizemoney total over the $130,000 mark for the Magstock Stable. Bred by Cambridge Stud, Magstock was then prepped for the Ready to Run sale where he was purchased from the draft of Bradbury Park for $50,000.
