A winning daughter of the English Derby winner and champion European stallion Galileo topped New Zealand Bloodstock's Mixed Winter Bloodstock Sale at Karaka on Friday.

The Brighthill Farm-offered Coral Reef, who is in foal to Tavistock, was knocked down to Tony Bott's E-Thoroughbred Pty Ltd for $80,000 and she will now head to his New South Wales-based operation.

The winner of two races in Australia, Coral Reef is out of a Danehill mare and is a half-sister to the dual South African stakes winner Chevauchee. Their mother is the Gr.1 Irish Oaks winner Knight's Baroness.

"We were keen to obtain Tavistock progeny so that was the main attraction with this mare, but she also has a good pedigree so she fit the bill," Bott said.

Another mare in foal to Cambridge Stud's boom young stallion is Valtier, a daughter of Fastnet Rock, and she realised the second-highest price when sold to NZB as agent for $60,000.

Valtier was also bought out of the Brighthill draft with Nick and Anne-Marie King's stud ending the sale as the leading vendor by aggregate with seven horses sold for $162,750. They were also the leading vendor by average (two or more sold) with an average of $23,250.

In all, with 83 lots catalogued the aggregate for the sale was $408,250 with an average of $8875 and a median that rose to $2500 from $1750 last year. The clearance rate was 64 percent. – NZ Racing Desk.
