Jamie Phillips is relaxed about the rest of the winter for his promising jumper Zedeedudadeeko.

The Tauherenikau trainer has no concrete plans for the seven-year-old beyond Thursday's Manawatu meeting and he will be happy to let the gelding's performances speak for themselves.

"I can't see us going to Riccarton and in the back of my mind I've got the Pakuranga meeting and if he won there it could be the Northern," Philips said.

"Then there is an open hurdle at Wanganui the day after Pakuranga. That would be a softer option and if he put his hand up then we could again consider the Northern, but I would also be quite happy to put him out and target that next year."

Phillips' immediate focus is the Corbett Bros Hurdle at Awapuni where Zedeedudadeeko will again be ridden by English jockey Charlie Studd.

They have formed a solid partnership with a runner-up finish on the course in the horse's hurdle debut and they then went one better at Trentham last time out.

"He's done well since Wellington," Phillips said. "He's a genuine stayer and he's got flat ability."

For a rising eight-year-old, Zedeedudadeeko has been sparingly raced with three wins on the flat from his 23 starts.

"I've been selective with him and that has been purely by design – he's a horse that's needed time," Phillips said.

Among Zedeedudadeeko's rivals at Awapuni will be Kipkeino and Jack's Boy, who chased him home at Trentham, while the former Grand National Hurdles winner Mahanadi and this season's Awapuni Hurdles winner My Magician add to a competitive midweek line-up. – NZ Racing Desk.
