Tony Pike isn't going to be in any immediate rush with his exciting staying prospect Chenille.
"She's back in work and she will be having a long, slow preparation," the Cambridge trainer said.
Chenille impressed during her summer and autumn campaign when she posted three wins and four placings from seven appearances.
She went for a spell following a career best performance at Hastings where she accounted for Saint Emilion and the Group One winner Savaria in the Listed Hawke's Bay Gold Cup.
"She's coming up well, but there won't be any mad rush to have her out in the spring and she will target all the cups races through to the Auckland Cup," Pike said.
He already has a tentative plan beyond that in mind for the Pentire four-year-old.
"I think she'll be an ideal type to take to Brisbane," Pike said.
Next year's Queensland winter carnival may also be on the programme of another smart Pentire mare in the stable in Skyweka.
Also a rising five-year-old, she was given a break after a near impeccable summer campaign that netted three wins, including the Douro Cup at Trentham, and a second from four appearances.
"She really stepped up for a mare that has been immature," Pike said.
"She's having a good, long break as she didn't really come up in the spring last year so she is probably going to miss this spring and we'll be seriously looking at the summer and autumn with her."
Meanwhile, Pike's Group One winners Provocative and Sacred Elixir, along with Rangipo, are back in work in Queensland after remaining in Australia at the end of the carnival.
"I couldn't be happier with them, they all spelled well," Pike said.
The trio are expected to move camp to Melbourne in early August for the opening of their spring campaigns the following month. - NZ Racing Desk.
