Promising stayer Bee Tee Junior is thriving on a restricted diet of racing.
The rising five-year-old came off a month's break to post the third win of his 13-start career at Te Rapa in early July and trainer Shaune Ritchie has a two mile target in mind for the gelding.
"I'd like to get him into a race like the New Zealand Cup on the minimum," the Cambridge trainer said.
"I thought he was quite impressive at his last start. Lisa Allpress rode him and she's a natural lightweight so with 60kg to carry there was a fair bit of lead in the saddle."
Ritchie has now mapped out a plan to have Bee Tee Junior at Riccarton for the Gr.3 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup on November 12.
"I'll just keep him ticking over through the winter and there's a race for him at Te Rapa on Foxbridge Plate day," he said.
"He'll probably just race once a month and there's another one for him at Hastings in October.
"He's a very sleek and lean horse and doesn't carry any excess condition so he will have all his races well-spaced."
By the Group One winner Nom du Jeu, Bee Tee Junior is out of the multiple winner That's My Char and is a grand-son of the Group performer Jellybean. – NZ Racing Desk.
