Cambridge Stud shuttle sire Power has enjoyed a milestone weekend with a runner from his first crop of Northern Hemisphere bred two-year-olds, the Aidan O'Brien trained Peace Envoy, scoring in the Gr. 3 Anglesey Stakes at The Curragh.
Ridden by Ryan Moore, Peace Envoy came with a sweeping run to defeat race favourite Psychedelic Funk and register the first stakes success for his sire who will return to Cambridge Stud for his fourth Southern Hemisphere breeding season this year.
The French-bred colt was having his fifth race start with O'Brian keen to tackle Group One company in the near future.
"He's getting better this horse and progressing well," he said.
"He could come back here for the (Gr. 1) Phoenix Stakes or he could go to the (Gr. 1) Prix Morny. He reminds me very much of Rock Of Gibraltar, although he has a long way to come, obviously."
Power's first crop of Southern Hemisphere progeny will hit New Zealand tracks in the spring after being well received at this year's New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale. A filly from Group One placed mare Octapussy was secured by the China Horse Club for $600,000 from the Cambridge Stud draft during the sale's Premier session.
Power will stand for a fee of $8,000+GST during the 2016 breeding season. – NZ Racing Desk.
