It was business as usual for the Lisa Latta stable at Trentham on the weekend as progressive intermediate galloper Bannockburn kicked off a winning treble for the powerful Awapuni operation with a dominant win over 1200 metres.
Latta, who is currently enjoying a well deserved mid-winter holiday, also took out one of the day's feature flat events with Platinum Command before completing the programme with a win to the ghostly grey galloper Yin Dragon
While Platinum Command cemented her place in the upcoming eStar Winter Cup at Riccarton, Bannockburn showed he was coming back to the form of last winter that saw him marked as a galloper capable of competing at the top level.
"He has taken a couple of runs this time in to come to it although he was pretty unlucky at Wanganui last time," said stable representative Andy Rennie after the race.
"It was a lovely ride by Robbie (Hannam) and once he gets to the front bowling along like that he is a tough horse to beat."
Hannam was suitably impressed by the gelding's performance after striking trouble on him at his previous run.
"He likes the wet and he likes Trentham having won here before," he commented.
"He was a little bit unlucky last time and won quite comfortably in the end here carrying topweight. That's a good effort on a tough track that they've got out there today."
Bookmakers reacted to the six length winning performance of Platinum Command in the Hanley Formula sponsored Whyte Handicap by installing her as the clear $5 favourite for the eStar 119th Winter Cup to be run at Riccarton on the 6th of August. – NZ Racing Desk.
