Stakes performer Sultan of Swing has come through his unplaced first-up run at Hastings in good order.
"The track tripped him up, it was a bit sticky and he never really looked comfortable," trainer Shaune Ritchie said.
"He hadn't had a trial either and was found wanting in the last 100 metres. He'll run at Ruakaka or Te Rapa next."
The winner of two of his five starts, Sultan of Swing was also placed in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial in the spring.
