Just three months since their first online thoroughbred auction gavelhouse.com's new business model has proved a valuable addition to the New Zealand racing landscape, enabling over $700,000 worth of bloodstock to be traded already.

The New Zealand Bloodstock subsidiary has been running online auctions since April with the June edition continuing the trend of hitting the $90,000 mark in each sale.

Te Akau Stables principal David Ellis was suitably impressed with the online buying process, having secured a quality yearling colt by Iffraaj for $90,000 in the June auction "I was very interested when my Racing Manager Brad Taylor called me about a yearling for sale on gavelhouse.com."

"We got Jamie Richards to go and inspect him in the Taranaki and he reported to me what a stunning colt he was.

"It was exciting being involved in the process and we were delighted to buy him - just five days after the successful bid he was already in work at our Matamata stable."

In charge of the bidding on the night, Taylor was pleased with the successful outcome "The colt reminded us a lot of his full brother Gingernuts who was impressive winning his second start for us and he's a horse we believe has plenty of upside for his three year old campaign,"

"David instructed me to be strong in our bidding and we were wrapped to get him for a good group of Te Akau owners."

"We've been very impressed with the record his sire Iffraaj is putting together I think this colt will develop into a nice autumn two year old."

Andrew Seabrook, Managing Director of NZB commented on the success of gavelhouse.com to date

"We're delighted with the results the site is already getting.

"To have sold almost 100 horses and prove that the site can work for sellers at all ends of the spectrum really is incredible this early in the scheme of things.

"It's very heartening for myself and my team going forward as we continue to look at ways to better service the thoroughbred community in New Zealand and further afield."

In addition to horses, stallion nominations and shares can also be auctioned on the site with entries for the July auction due by 7pm on Sunday the 17th July. The catalogue will go online at 7pm on Monday 18 July with bidding running from 7pm 25 July to 7pm 28 July.
