Gail Temperton has enjoyed success over the jumps with her small team this winter and Nom du Beel might provide her with cause for a flat celebration at Wanganui on Thursday.
The mainstay of the Awapuni owner-trainer's team has been Just Ishi, who has two recent hurdle wins to his credit including a defeat during his current preparation of the outstanding performer Sea King.
While Just Ishi took a tumble at Hastings last Saturday, he has come through the incident unscathed.
"He had a bit of a mishap and dropped his foot on landing and popped the jockey over his shoulder," Temperton said.
"He's good though and has jumped the brush steeples here since and he'll go to the maiden steeplechase at Trentham next."
Our Debutante also showed she had a future in the jumping game when she gave a good account of herself to run third at the Hawke's Bay meeting in only her second outing over the smaller fences.
"She's very well and at this stage she'll be going to Wellington as well for the maiden hurdle," Temperton said.
In the meantime, her focus will be on Wanganui where Nom du Beel looms as a strong chance in the Spooner's Drycleaning 1600.
The four-year-old, who will be ridden by the in-form Emily Farr, has been to Wanganui for his last two starts and after a strong-finishing fifth over 1400 metres he stepped up to a mile and ran fourth after racing three wide.
"He's very well and the distance suits him, so should the track and he's got a good jockey," Temperton said. "He has got a bad draw and that's the only worry."
The stable will also be represented by the first-starter Savy's Gift in the Balance Chartered Accountants Ltd 1360. The filly by Shocking has a recent trial placing at Foxton to her credit. – NZ Racing Desk.
