Mongolianlightning looks a colt to follow after he distanced his two-year-old rivals at Matamata on Wednesday to credit his sire Bullbars with his first winner.
A trial winner last month for trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, he made the running and bolted clear into the straight when asked to lengthen stride by rider Matt Cameron.
"We were a bit concerned about the track, but his class obviously got him through," stable representative Heidi Birch said.
Mongolianlightning, a half-brother to the multiple Australian stakes winner Moti, won the Colchester Engineering Juvenile easing down by eight and a half lengths.
Retired to Highview Stud in 2012, Bullbars won the Gr.3 C. S. Hayes Stakes and was Group One placed. He is a half-brother by Elusive Quality to the multiple Group One winner Helmet.
