Graham Richardson produced three winners at his last home meeting and his run of success at Matamata may continue on Wednesday.
One of his leading chances looks to be Ron's Last, who will be chasing an overdue victory in the Peter Howland's Beaurepaires Matamata 1200.
The Patapan four-year-old has gone close to his breakthrough success a few times with consecutive runner-up finishes this preparation before he ran fifth at his most recent appearance.
"He's close and he probably got too far back last time out and the ground at Te Teko was a bit too firm for him," Richardson said.
Apprentice Shaun McKay has been booked for Ron's Last and he will also be aboard stablemate Quantum Maelstrom.
They combined for the former Hong Kong galloper's maiden win at Matamata last month and the dominance of that performance suggests he can go close again in the NZI Insurance 1600.
"He's a thinker this horse, but now he's got one we're hoping he can go on with it," Richardson said.
The best performed runner from the stable to step out on Wednesday is Letmeby in the Colchester Engineering 1600 following a solid sixth when resuming at Avondale in April before he was laid low.
"It was a very good run, but he got a bad cold after that so we had to put him out and he's come back well again," Richardson said.
An interesting debutante in the Comag 1200 is Blueberry Sweet, the first representative of the Danehill Dancer horse Huckleberry Finn.
"I bought Huckleberry Finn as a yearling for a good friend of mine Michael Drapac, who is a medical scientist in Melbourne, and I had a share in him and he won seven races in Victoria," Richardson said.
"The horse is at Peter Brosnan's place and Michael has just bred privately to him." – NZ Racing Desk.
