Lee Somervell is heading down a familiar path with Impulsive Habit.
The Cambridge trainer will run the youngster in the TAB 2YO at Rotorua on Wednesday with a view to then tackling the final black type challenge of the season for juveniles, the Listed Ryder Stakes at Otaki on July 30.
"I did the same thing with Addictive Habit and Stradivarius and they won and both of them ran second in the Ryder," Somervell said.
"If they can run well in the Ryder it makes it easier getting a start in the better three-year-old races."
By Echoes Of Heaven from Addictive Habit's family, Impulsive Habit has pleased Somervell with his progress toward his race day debut.
"I think he's destined to do very good things," he said. "He's a massive fellow and I've given him four trials, which is more than I normally do, for him to get his act together.
"His last two trials have been very good and in his last win I spoke to Richard Collett, who had the second horse and he has a high opinion of that one."
Somervell plans to give Impulsive Habit two runs before he has a break ahead of a spring campaign.
"He's still got a lot of maturing to do," he said. "He's a beautiful horse and even though it's a midweek maiden two-year-old race I'm still quite excited.
"Trudy Thornton will ride him and she's done much of the work on him and got him ticking along nicely." – NZ Racing Desk.
