Sultan Of Swing has bucked a trend by moving to a busy training centre.

The talented three-year-old was a black type performer in a light career for Ruakaka trainers Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs before transferring to Shaune Ritchie's Cambridge yard.

"With his record - two wins and a stakes placing from four starts – I'm not about to improve the horse," Ritchie said.

"I've talked to Donna and she's helped me to deal with him, he's had a few mild issues.

"He's more suited to a paddock in Cambridge than the beach at Ruakaka and it usually works the other way, but he seems more at home in a box.

"I've had a few horses go up to Donna and she does a great job with them so it's all very amicable."

Sultan of Swing was a debut winner at Ellerslie in the spring before he bridged the gap to better company next time out when third in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial.

The Bachelor Duke colt, who is raced by his Hong Kong-based breeder Dominic Li, finished sixth behind the subsequent Gr.1 NZ Derby winner Rangipo in the Gr.2 Great Northern Guineas and he hasn't started since he beat the older horses at Tauranga in mid-January.

"He's looking like he'll be racing fairly shortly, he's not far off so I'll talk to the owner and decide what we're going to do," Ritchie said. – NZ Racing Desk.
