Group One winner in fine fettle after spell

Top-class performer Valley Girl is showing no ill-effects from a shambolic incident at the end of her autumn campaign in Sydney.

Following a bold second in the Gr.1 Vinery Stud at Rosehill and a creditable sixth in the Gr.1 Australian Oaks at Randwick, her return home was delayed by inept veterinary practice.

Along with Oaks winner Sofia Rosa and Capella, Valley Girl took ill after undergoing a pre-flight insect spray treatment.

Inexplicably, the dosage rate was incorrect and all three fillies suffered burns and exhibited signs of colic.

"She's back in the stable now after a break and she looks great – she's bigger and stronger," Valley Girl's co-trainer Donna Logan said.

She prepares the winner of the Gr.1 Herbie Dyke Stakes, in which she accounted for Stolen Dance and Kawi, with Chris Gibbs and they will shortly sit down and map out the daughter of Mastercraftsman's spring campaign.

"Obviously there's Melbourne to think of and the Hawke's Bay carnival – Hasselhoof could go down there," Logan said.

"Chris is away at the moment, but when he's back we will start planning and locking programmes in."

Tavistock gelding Hasselhoof is unbeaten in six New Zealand starts, including victory in the Gr.2 Rich Hill Stud Mile, and collected minor placings in two appearances in Sydney earlier this year before he was turned out.

"He looks magnificent and there are plenty of options coming up for him," Logan said. - NZ Racing Desk.
