Local trainer Donna Logan took full advantage of racing on her home patch at Ruakaka on Saturday as she and training partner Chris Gibbs picked up a winning treble on the day.

Rocknrolla, Cambridge and Silencer all saluted the judge for the Logan/Gibbs team with two of the three ridden by promising apprentice Sam Weatherley who made good use of his four kilogram claim in a display that impressed Logan.

"I thought he showed a lot of initiative with Rocknrolla as originally I had said to him to settle her back and come with one run in the straight," she explained.

"When she started over-racing he let her slide up to them rather than fight with her and with the light weight she just raced away at the finish.

"He also handled Silencer beautifully as he let the horse bring him into the race as I instructed and again that four kilograms was worth its weight in gold in a close finish so he did a super job for us."

Logan was quick to acknowledge the role that the excellent Ruakaka surface had played in their results.

"I thought the track was in superb condition and played very fairly during the day," she said.

"The track really comes into its own at this time of the year and is a real asset for all trainers. The fact we don't have to load up a team on the truck and head south is a big factor for us so we always look forward to racing here with a lot of anticipation."

Logan also reported that one of her stable stars in Volkstok'n'barrell had been turned out for a winter spell in the Queensland sun before returning home to be prepared for the local summer weight-for-age features next season. – NZ Racing Desk
